Visiting South Eastern New Brunswick in the summer

Earlier this year, I received an invitation to visit two regions of New Brunswick with Experience Acadie: South Eastern New Brunswick and the Acadian Peninsula.

I had been to this province of Eastern Canada several times, but never stopped there. So I was really happy to have the chance to visit this province for a few days in August!

I then decided to share my best finds with you in the two regions I visited!

Picnic with NB Explorer Tours

My stay in South Eastern New Brunswick started in Shediac where I had the chance to enjoy a picnic created and curated by NB Explorer Tours with local products only. NB Explorer specializes in experiential tourism around different topics throughout New Brunswick. I fell in love with fresh shrimp, oysters and Scow artisanal cider.

Shediac Bay Cruises + Lobster Dinner

After stopping in Shediac, I went to Pointe-du-Chêne for a cruise with Shediac Bay Cruises to learn more about lobster fishing. When you understand all the work required to get the lobster on your plate, it puts things in perspective!

Eat traditional Acadian dishes: fricot & crêpe râpée

A must-go for Acadian cuisine when you’re in Southeastern New Brunswick is fricot. It’s a simple chicken soup with some vegetables and a good broth. You will find this dish in several restaurants in the region. For my part, I went to the restaurant La Sagouine in the village of Bouctouche. I went there initially to taste their poutine râpée, another traditional dish, but they did not serve the day when I visited them.

Eat some good seafood on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean at Paturel’s Shore House Restaurant while watching the sunset

If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely enjoy this restaurant— Paturel’s Shore House — which serves a wide variety of seafood dishes and has a beautiful ocean view terrace. I went there around 19:30 to enjoy the sunset when I was eating sitting on the terrace, it was sublime!

Eat poutine râpée

As I had not been able to eat poutine râpée at La Sagouine, I asked the locals to give me suggestions as to where to eat the best poutine râpée — it was unanimous: at Leo’s Take-Out in Bouctouche. If you’ve never eaten poutine râpée, imagine a huge dumpling filled with a salted pork stuffing, surrounded by a dough made from fresh and cooked potatoes. If you are a foodie like me, you have to try at least once. Eat with salt, sugar or condiments of your choice!
