Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand: A Fresh New Restaurant In Quebec City
Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand
I first heard about about Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand on my friend Mary Lynn’s Instagram earlier this year. I wanted to go as soon as possible, but the many projects I was working on were taking all of my free time and I couldn’t even think of spending a weekend away from my computer to work like crazy.
Fast forward a week ago, I was on my way to Quebec City for a weekend off to spend some quality time with friends and family and out of nowhere, I received a media invitation to try Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand with a guest of mine. I obviously accepted the invitation and went with my dad on a chilly autumn Friday night.
Inside Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand
Located a few minutes away from Place d’Youville — a very touristic area in Quebec City — Luzz is well located for both tourists and locals. It’s opened from early morning until late evening and it’s located next to one of the most frequented bus stops in the city — very convenient if you want to have a quick snack before hopping on the next bus or if you want to sit for hours and do people watching in the giant “bay window”.

Graphic design of Luzz
The branding of the restaurant was developped by Filière M, a graphic design studio located in Quebec City. It’s very fresh, young and cheerful.
The concept at Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand
The concept is simple at Luzz: fresh and local ingredients, a touch of healthiness and a location that is opened from early morning until late in the evening. Whether you’re looking for a fresh juice to grab and go or to stay longer and have a fabulous meal in the evening, Luzz has it all!
Fresh & Healthy
While I didn’t have the chance to test their Bar Fraîcheur menu, I took a quick glance at it when I got in the restaurant and it seems very legit!

Finally a new fun option in this neighbourhood for breakfast
The morning after I went to try the evening menu with my dad, I went with a couple friends to test the Breakfast menu. Everything was great. I had the White Chocolate & Matcha pancakes — my only complaint would be there wasn’t enough of that scrumptious white sauce on top of the pancakes, I would definitely add a saucer on the side to add more while eating the pancakes. Most breakfast places will have good food but really bad coffee and I was so happy when I took my first sip of coffee at Luzz to find out they had great coffee! The beans were by Pyrophyte – Artisan Torréfacteur, a local roaster from Quebec City. Also good to know, the menu was developed by Fanny Lehouiller, a chef that participated in a popular TV show in Quebec called Les Chefs.
Perfect place for a lunch date on a work day
What dinner is like at Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand
Now onto the part why I initially came here for: dinner. Chef Philippe Morissette (ex-Patente et Machin) is the great mind behind the fabulous evening menu at Luzz.
You have the option to go à la carte or to give carte blanche to Philippe with its Inspiration plate that is a food & wine pairing.
We trusted the chef 100% and decided to go with the Inspiration plate and to say we were impressed would be an understatement. Each plate was absolutely delightful and Chef Philippe even made me eat mushrooms — and I hate mushrooms. My dad and I had a huge crush on the creamy corn plate that was so well paired with a pumpkin chutney and a puff pastry for the crunch.
Everything is made with locally sourced products — so everytime you go is pretty much a surprise depending on the seasonal arrivals at the farmer’s market.
This is honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
Cocktails at Luzz Bar Fraîcheur Bistro Gourmand
As my dad doesn’t drink alcohol, we didn’t get the wine pairing with the Inspiration plate so I took the opportunity to try two cocktails developed by local mixologist Maxim Dallaire — both were absolutely amazing, especially the Kentucky Avenue which was so appropriate for this chilly autumn evening. Have a look at the cocktail menu over here.
